Stavro Polstate Medical University
Stavropol is an ancient city located in the North Caucasus. The city of Stavropol is a large administrative, industrial, agricultural, scientific and cultural center of the North Caucasus with a number of historical monuments, museums, libraries, sport facilities, concert halls, hotels, supermarkets, and restaurants. For the religiously inclined people, the city has some Orthodox churches, and a Mosque. Stavropol is a students’ city. There are more than 30 higher educational institutions where more than 90 thousand students are trained. With the abundance of trees and flowers in the streets, parks and squares, Stavropol is among the greenest cities in Russia today, and is called the “Gate of Caucasus”. The Botanical Garden of Stavropol is a museum of living plants. Stavropol is connected by air, railway and road to Moscow and other cities of Russia. There is an international airport in the city of Mineralnye Vody about 180 km away, 2 hours by bus.
Stavropol State Medical University was founded in 1938. Nowadays, the University is one of the authoritative educational and scientific medical centers of the country. Stavropol State Medical University is recognized by the Medical Council of India. The University is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools published by the World Health Organization (WHO). Within 50 years the University trains thousands of foreign students of Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.
There are 7 faculties in the University where 6 500 Russian and foreign students from 33 countries of the world are trained. Students of the University are encouraged to participate in different research projects. The University has 7 computer classes, a modern library, which numbers about 500 000 copies of books. There is an Internet centre within the library. Lecture-rooms, laboratories and libraries do not limit the student’s life. The University has 4 students’ hostels, a sports complex with a swimming pool, gyms and sauna.
There is a sports camp on the Black Sea coast of the North Caucasus, where teachers and students have a rest every year. In 2005, the English-speaking Medium was opened in the University, where the training is conducted in English. The University has the modern material and technical base, allowing to provide a high educational level.
The course of study at the faculty is 6 years. During two years students master the humanitarian and medico biological subjects. From the third course students begin to study clinical disciplines. Every academic year, students of the General Medicine Faculty have Medical Practice. The graduates of the Faculty are awarded the qualification of «Physician » in specialty «General Medicine». They have the opportunity to get a specialization in any field of health service. University occupies a leading position among Russian medical universities in the quality of training doctors for the foreign countries. Stavropol State Medical University is one of 12 medical universities in Russia, accredited to train students from India.
One of the main components of health of the young people is their nutrition. For this purpose, canteens and refreshment rooms are opened in the educational buildings and students’ hostels. The University has four students’ hostels with furnished apartments for 2-3 persons. Kitchens are equipped with all necessary facilities. There are shower rooms, washing rooms at the hostels.
Extracurricular Activities of Students
Students’ life is not limited to lectures, practical classes, tests and exams. Studying at the University students can continue and develop their hobbies by: singing, performing arts, choreography, folk, playing in a «KVN» team, participate in the volunteer movement, carrying out the research work. To keep themselves in a good physical form, they may go in for sports to one of the sections, and of course, they may demonstrate their leadership in the implementation of projects of the University Students’ Union.
The University created the conditions for improvement of the students’ health. The Center of Students’ Health is opened at University, where the specialists carry out constant monitoring of the students’ health indicators during the whole period of study at the University. Stavropol State Medical University is the only educational establishment in the city, which has a sanatorium, where the students receive comprehensive treatment, or improve their health.
In addition to the basic scholarship, the University Council scholarship, Rector’s scholarship, Students Scientific Society scholarships were established. The social grants for the orphans, for the disabled groups I and II, for the poor and other socially disadvantaged students are also established.
The Stavropol State Medical University proudly announces its permission to conduct the Post Graduate Fellowship/ Diploma / Degree Courses under the aegis of the University to the International Centre for Medical Education and Research (ICMER), a scientific society, at the “Crescent Court”, 963, Poonamallee High Road, Chennai – 600 084, India, which has been registered and authenticated in the Ministries of State and Central Governments in India. The varied and content rich Post Graduates Programmes are designed to highlight the medical skills of the Indian and Foreign Medical Graduates in India and will be in Distance Education Mode by Online / Regular / Contact programmes by roping in the services of the Corporate Host Tertiary Medical Education and Training Institutions in India.
Exchange programme in Stavropol was one of the most amazing things. Every year students of the Stavropol State Medical University participate in exchange programs of IFMSA and IADS. Students from all over the world come to the University during a year for practice or research work.
